WHAT ARE RESCHECK™ AND COMCHECK™?
These free software products from the US Department of Energy are designed to make it fast and easy for builders, designers, and contractors to determine whether residential (REScheck™) and commercial (COMcheck™) new construction projects, additions, or alterations meet energy code requirements.
RESCHECK™
REScheck™ is for building envelope trade-off calculations in residential one-and two-family buildings and multi-family buildings of 3 stories or less above grade, including apartments and condominiums.
COMCHECK™
COMcheck™ is for building envelope trade-off calculations in residential high-rise and commercial projects.
REScheck™ and COMcheck™ work by performing a UA calculation for your building envelope. The reports generated can be used for compliance with your local building official. Other programs do exist that allow you to do prescriptive trade-offs, but they’re more difficult to use and require more modeling. Most inspectors are familiar with REScheck™ and COMcheck™.
